Hogs Lower on Wednesday

Lean hog futures slipped 12 to 67 cents at Wednesday’s close. The CME Lean Hog Index for 11/09 was $71.25, up 12 cents. Pork Cutout Futures (started trading this week) were down 27 cents in Dec at $80.97. The National Pork Carcass Cutout value was 16 cents higher in USDA’s PM report, at $83.14. USDA’s National Average Base Hog price for Wednesday afternoon was reported at $61.05, up 62 cents from Tuesday. USDA’s FI hog slaughter for Wednesday is 459,000 head, with the WTD total at 1.445 million head. That is now down 30,000 head from last year but 15,000 head above last year.
